The Qur'an

3 stars
Like the Torah, this contains an incredible amount of repetition. Some "books" sound as if they are word-for-word matches to others. While it reinforces the Torah and the Bible stories, they are "Cliff Notes" versions. The most startling part was the repeated assertion that the prophet needed no signs to prove he was a true prophet, as past signs and the existence of the world should be signs enough. This is noted despite warnings of the coming of false prophets in earlier testaments. It also states that God sends a prophet to each new group, seemingly as He gives up on the last one. Close to a dozen groups are mentioned. This would seem to create a framework in which anyone who can recall a few Bible stories can claim they are the latest prophet sent by God. Hopefully, something was lost in translation. Or the Book of Mormon might claim endorsement from the Qur'an.

An interesting side note: in the Qur'an, Surah at-Talaq, 65:12, it says, “It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them.” This would seem to imply that there are seven "Earths" or parallel dimensions. Ibn ‘Abbas has been quoted as saying about the verse, “Seven earths: In every earth is a prophet like your Prophet, an Adam like your Adam, a Noah like your Noah, an Abraham like your Abraham, and a Jesus like your Jesus,” which would seem to lean toward the parallel dimensions interpretation.

It sounds like the Book of Mormon is the one to read next for this comparative study to see how it builds on this foundation.
