Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind review

5 stars
A great book that explores how we got into some of these historical cycles and may be locked into repeating them. For example, listening to the chapter on how we started down the cycle of farming, which led to industrialization, you see a substantial similarity to the current AI cycle. Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of AI automation because I see the benefits, but I also see all too well the pain it will cause, mainly due to poor planning. Just as this book demonstrates how humans were domesticated by wheat, rather than the other way around, AI will also change society. It is virtually inevitable. The level of pain this will cause is the only real variable. And similar to the adoption of wheat, that will be mostly figured out in hindsight.
